CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE
SESSIONS
At Chalk Climbing Project we have two groups for children and young people; one group for 6 to 12 year olds and one group for 13 to 16 year olds. Children are referred from child/young person services, SEN schools and parents themselves. We also run a daytime group for children who are not in mainstream education (EOTIS) with an educational care plan (ECP). We are experienced at working with children who have autism, sensory conditions and ADHD. Chalk Climbing Project fills a gap for children who have been removed or excluded from schools as we offer a safe space for our climbers to create friendships, learn new skills, adhere to guidance and boundaries and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
The Chalk community are making huge improvements in their social awareness, communication, integration, and physical abilities when they attend regularly. Our climbers respond well to the physicality and problem solving that comes with this type of activity. It helps strengthen coordination, problem solving, balancing with distractions, planning of routes and concentration.
The children & young person community is such a fun, loving community where they are able to learn at different speeds and engage through climbing. Our young climbers all support one another to complete the climb; the cheers of encouragement and accomplishment is a joy to be a part of! All of our climbers learn how to belay and this is where the sustainable learning and growth happens; they feel the benefits of 'giving back', sharing experiences and their new skills.
